Job Listing Description

Sr. Structural Analyst

Seeking a leader to take ownership of structural analysis of several key projects. This role requires the candidate to thrive in a high paced environment and will have an integral role in advancing the next generation of electrically powered vertical lift aircraft.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Define: Develop structural analysis methodologies that are aligned with industry best-practices and compliance with FAR civil certification standards. Define coupon test programs to establish material allowables and be highly versed in aerospace sizing methods and fatigue methodology.
Lead: Oversee the structural analysis capabilities of a small team and help empower new engineers with best in-class analysis techniques.
Do: This job will be a mix of developing the in-house analysis capabilities of the company, as well as performing as an individual contributor. The senior structural analysis will also take the lead analyzing a myriad of critical components and primary structure. This includes both metallics and composites. Areas of focus include blades, propeller systems and blade retention components, transmissions, gears, bearings, actuators, motors/shafts, and other critically important, dynamically loaded structural components. The work outputs will include structural substantiation packages written to a high level of expertise as well as documentation of flight test limits for the analyzed components. This job may also require the senior structural analysis to support development test efforts (both ground and flight testing).
Intrinsic: The role will require constant flexibility and a level of comfort working in a rapid-prototype environment. The projects and assignments will vary from week to week, so the candidate should ideally have robust experiences to draw from (e.g. aerospace development programs, Motorsport/Formula One) in order to operate effectively in this environment. The role will include interfacing with engineering management, our customers, certification authorities, operations, procurement, external suppliers, and fellow design engineers.

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree from an accredited university in a related discipline with at least 5 years of professional experience in aerospace or a related field (i.e. formula one) or equivalent experience/combined education.
• Excellent analysis skills and a track record of demonstrated success analyzing actual products.
• Highly experienced in finite element analytical tools such as Hyper-Mesh pre-processors integrated with Nastran solvers (preferred), ANSYS or similar.
• Well versed in 3D CAD and model setup using 3DExperience (preferred), CATIA V5/V6, SolidWorks or similar.
• Knowledge of fatigue analysis of critical structures using various substantiation methodologies (safe-life, flaw tolerant safe-life, damage tolerance among others) through the full-lifecycle. This includes developing and enforcing component strength limits in order to ensure the structural integrity of the component is maintained through the test and evaluation stages of the program.
• Experience supporting ground and flight testing of complex systems.
• Versed in gear and bearing design, and analysis of these components using tools such as Calyx and Romax. Experience designing and analyzing common housing features such as lugs and bolted joints.
• In addition to structural work, thermal, fluid, and dynamic analysis may be called for.
• The job entails using finite element software and classical analysis to help size dynamic components and select material specifications, along with leading efforts to solve technical problems and providing mentoring or oversight to others. Past experience leading a team and/or mentoring others, formally or informally is an advantage.
• Also desired are candidates with prior experience preparing certification documents for the FAA and direct interaction with a FAA Structural DER.

The Structures Company is an AA/EOE.
